Unquestionable Death Criteria
Unresponsive
Apneic
Pulseless
and at least ONE of the following
Pt has lividity
Pt has clear signs of body decay or visible decomposition
Pt has rigor mortis (rigidity)
Pt has an open cranium w/exposed brain matter
Pt is decapitated or has a severed trunk
Pt has full thickness burns to the entire body
Trauma Death Criteria
Blunt Chest Trauma or Multi-system Trauma
Apneic
Pulseless
If cardiac rhythm is asystole or wide complex ventricular rhythm of 30 or less without a pulse, document time and pronounce death
Medical Asystole
Pt who are apneic, pulseless and asystolic that do not meet the unquestionable death criteria.
Resuscitation efforts may be terminated only when ALL of the following criteria exist:
Arrest was not witnessed
No shocks provided prior to arrival
Pt is equal to or greater than 18 y/o
Rhythm remains systole after providing 3 rounds of full ACLS
Acutely hypothermic Pt in cardiac arrest …
… shall be treated and transported with submersion time less than 60 minutes
