Resumen Flashcards
What does proton number mean?
The number of positive charges in the nucleus of an atom of a given element
What does nucleon number mean?
The sum of the number of neutrons and protons in an atomic nucleus
What is an isotope?
An isotope is any form of a chemical element that has the same number of protons in the nucleus
2 uses of radioactive isotopes:
- Nuclear bombs
- Medicine eg as tracers
What are valency electrons?
An outer shell electron that is associated with an atom
Why are the electronic configurations of the noble gases special?
They all have the maximum number of valence electrons their outer shell can hold
How do you calculate the number of moles?
Mass (g)
———————————
Relative formula mass (Mr)
How much does one mole in co2 weigh?
Carbon (1x12) + Oxygen (2x16)
