What happened due to the events in 1789?
Sectarianism intensified between Catholics and Protestants and Protestants and Prebysterians. The atrocities in Wexford helped that.
What did the Orange Order say about the Catholics?
They said the rebellion was a Catholic plot tot take over the country and oppress all Protestants. This caused an even bigger divide in Irish politics on the basis of religion.
Explain everything about the Act of Union 1800:
The British wanted Ireland back in it’s full control so they passed this act that abolished the parliament in Dublin.
What did Irish MP’s do for the next 120 years?
They went to Westminster
What happened after the Union?
Dublin went from being a great, prosperous city with lots of trade to poor and unglamorous because of all the wealthy political parties moving to London. As a result, Belfast became the main space of trade.
What did Tone’s dream of an independent Irish republic do?
It inspired many others such as the leaders of the 1916 Easter rising and the Young Irelanders (1848).
What was Wolf Tone also known as?
