Resultant Forces & Work Done Flashcards
How does weight act on an object?
Weight pulls an object towards the ground.
How does drag act on an object?
Drag slows the object from falling down.
What is resultant force?
Resultant force is the overall force on a point/object.
What is a single force called?
A single force is called a resultant force.
What can you replace the number of forces acting on the same point of an object with?
You can replace them with a single force.
How are the overall forces found?
The overall forces are found by adding those in the same direction and subtracting those in opposite directions.
What is work done?
Work done is when a force moves an object through a distance. ENERGY IS TRANSFERRED & WORK IS DONE ON THE OBJECT!
When must a force be applied?
A force must be applied to make or keep something moving (frictional force).
Why does the force need to apply a force?
The force must have a source of energy such as fuel.
When the force moves an object what happens to energy?
The energy is transferred from one source to another.
What is work agains frictional sources?
Work agains frictional sources is when you push something along a rough surface.
Why is energy transferred to kinetic energy stores?
Energy is transferred to kinetic energy stores when it starts moving.
When is energy transferred to thermal energy stores?
Energy is transferred to thermal energy stores due to friction. Which causes the energy to increase.
What is the equation for work done?
Work done = force * Distance
(J) (N) (D)
What do you need to covert joules to?
You need to convert joules to newton meters.
