Resultant forces Flashcards
What happens what two objects interact
When two objects collide the forces the exert on each other are equal and opposite
What is a resultant force?
A number of forces acting at a point causes a single force that has the same effect on the motion as the original forces acting together
E.g. If a object was stationary and object 2 with an equal weight collides with it, object 1 will move in the same velocity with the same momentum when there is no other factors such as friction acting on it. If object1 is double the weight of object 2 the momentum is halved
What can happen when a resultant force is acting on an object?
It can change its state of rest or motion
Two things that happens when a resultant force is stationary is…
Zero- the object remains stationary
Not zero l- the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force
The two things that happen if the resultant force acting on a moving object is…
Zero- the object will continue to move at the same velocity
Not zero- the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force
