Resultant force and work done Flashcards
What is work done?
When a force moves an object through a distance energy is transferred and work is done on the object.
Formula for work done?
W=Fs Work done (J) = Force (N) x Distance (M)
Unit of work done?
Newton-meters
How many joules equal to one newton meters?
1
1J=1Nm
How many newton meters are in 5 joules?
5
1J=1Nm
What are forces?
A vector
What does a vector represent?
Magnitude and Direction
Forces act from where?
Centre of mass
What is TTT stand for?
Tip to Tail
What does SD stand for?
Scale diagrams
What should you always use as a scale for scale diagrams?
1N=1cm
How do you find the resultant vector?
Draw a line form a tip of the first force and the tail of the other force.
What happens when a resultant force moves an object?
Work is done.
What does the term equilibrium mean?
Resultant force equals zero.
What is a Free Body Diagram?
A diagram that shows all the forces acting on an object. All of the forces are represented with arrows (vector lines)
What can you do if multiple forces act alone the same line (parallel)?
You can replace them with a single force that has the same effect.
If the three forces tip to tail end up at the same place where it started, what does this mean?
The forces are at equilibrium
If the resultant force equals O what does this mean.
The object is still or moving at a constant speed.
Any force at angle can be represented as?
A vertical component and a horizontal component.
Acting together these components have the same effect.
