FEV1/FVC ratio =
Greater than 80%
Gonna go through some causes next
ok
Goodpasture’s Syndrome thing to remember
Anti-Basement Membrane antibodies
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
Look for honeycombing
Sarcoidosis key feature
Non-caseating granulomas, bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy, High ACE and calcium
What are pneumoconioses
Due to inhaled substances… Anthracosis, Silicosis, Asbestosis
Anthracosis
associated with coal mines ( Coal Miner’s Lung)
Which part of the lungs does it affect?
Upper Lobe
Silicosis
Associated with sandblasting
What exactly happens In silicosis
The main culprit is MACROPHAGES… they respond to the silica and release fibrogenic factors which lead to fibrosis (which makes sense since they are FIBROGENIC). May increase the susceptibility to TB
Silicosis affects what lobes?
upper lobes
Asbestosis associated with
shipbuilding, roofing, plumbing
Asbestosis affects what lobes
Lower lobes!!!!! Asbestos is the only one of the pneumoconiosis that affects the lower lobes
Asbestosis increases your risk of
Bronchogenic carcinoma and mesothelioma
Berryliosis associated with
Airplane manufacturing
