What does restorative justice put an emphasis on?
Focus on the needs of the individual, to come to terms with the crime and move on. Instead of enforcing the law and punishing

- focus on acceptance (positive changes that occur>punishment)
- outside courtrooms (face to face)
- active involvement
- focusing on positive outcomes for individuals who have engaged in wrong doing (the next steps)
Variations of restorative justice: reasons why program is flexible
Not all face to face
To make it up to victims, may make financial restitution, repairing damaged property

Punishment is decided by the public rather than a courtroom
AO3: considers interest of victims and offenders
Empowerment of victims and offenders held accountable
AO3: proportionate punishment
Victim has a voice, able to express what punishment they think is suitable
