Resting Scapular Postures Flashcards
The vertical alignment of the scapulae is compared using the inferior angle as a landmark.
The normal height is located at about T7-9.
Vertical Scapular Position
The distance from the T4 spinous process to the medial border of the scapula is measured with the patient standing.
Normal resting value is about 6cm.
An increased distance represents a protracted scapular position, a decreased distance, or a retracted scapula.
Horizontal Scapular Position
The distance from the T7 vertebra to the inferior angle of each scapula is measured.
An increased distance indicates an upwardly rotated scapula.
Scapular Rotation
Protrusion of the medial border of the scapula “Pseudowinging” is apparent when the inferior angle is prominent and is associated with increased anterior tipping of the scapula.
