Responses Flashcards
What does non-specific innate defence mechanism mean
These protect against an enormous range of possible dangers and are present at birth
What does a specific adaptive defence mechanism mean
resistance is directed against only one specific invader
It is called adaptive immunity because it adopts refined and strengthens its response to multiple exposures of the same antigen
This ability to learn is responsible for the development of immunological memory giving long-term immunity to specific infections
What is an antigen
Anything that stimulates an immune response
What are some non-specific defence mechanisms
The skin, mucus membranes, enzymes, inflammatory responses, hormonal responses
What are some examples of specific adaptive defence mechanisms
Pus swelling redness T and B lymphocyte response
