A

“A warning was given and your behaviour continued, so this is the consequence. Now you have the choice to move or refuse my instruction. Before you make that choice I’m going to give you 2 minutes to think about it. If after 2 minutes, if you’re still sitting here, then I’m going to let (your teacher) know that you refused my instruction and let them decide on an appropriate consequence.”

Minor offense:

  1. Inform perpetrating student/s that comments are highly inappropriate and that behaviour will not be tolerated at school.
  2. Privately ask student/s to talk outside or ask to stay back at end.
    - “What did you do/say that was inappropriate?”
    - “How might that comment make other students feel”
    - “Everyone in this school deserves to be treated with kindness and respect”
  3. Check in with affected student.
    - “Are you ok?”
    - “I’m so sorry that that occurred in my class. Please know that the school is going to support you and make sure this does not occur again.”
  4. Inform HT of event and create Sentral entry.

If Major offense, call immediately for HT or Exec and provide affected student with immediate support.

  1. Use whistle to call students back to designated area, following students until inappropriate. Inform groups of students that if they refuse to come back they will be sent to the DP.

A

Breathing – look and feel for chest movements (up and down) and listen near mouth and nose. If breathing, turn on to side, carefully ensuring that you keep their head, neck and spine in alignment.

A

CPR – 2 hands between nipples. 30 compressions, 2 breaths (lift chin and pinch nostrils, blow firmly into mouth). Keep tempo of Staying Alive.

Student having a severe asthmatic attack (symptoms and response)

A

Symptoms:

  • Extreme shortness of breath or wheezing
  • Difficulty speaking
  • No improvement after inhaler

Response:

  1. Stay seated (do not walk or lie down)
  2. Check if anaphylaxis and if so give adrenaline autoinjector immediately
  3. Send other students to get help - 1 to nearby teacher, 1 to front office
  4. 4 slow breaths per puff, 1 puff every minute
  5. Call 000 if symptoms don’t improve after 10 mins

  2. 5 back blows: stand behind, lean forward, and blow between shoulder blades
  3. 5 chest thrusts: hands into fist and squeeze stomach upwards
  4. Alternate between steps 2 and 3
