respiratory system Flashcards
what is Apnea?
lack of cessation of breathing
what is Asthma?
a chronic inflammation disorder of the airways
what is Tuberculosis
infection spread by airborne bacteria
what is Hypoxia
chronic oxygen deficiency
what is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
lung disorder characterized by chronic obstruction of the airflow that interferes with normal breathing. It is not fully reversible
what is pulmonary embolism?

Long term inflammation of the airways
Churg Strauss Syndrome
A rare inflammation of small blood vessels resulting in possible damage to skin, nerves and heart. This occurs more often in people with asthma.
Virchows triad in DVT
- Venous stasis 2. Endothelial injury 3. Hypercoagulable states
lung cancer
strong link with smoking. Two main types:
- less common: Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)
- most common: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
Haemoptysis
Coughing up blood. The blood could come from mouth, nose or lungs but in the latter case would often be streaked or mixed with sputum
Anosmia
Lack of sense of smell
drugs used in treatment of DVT
Anticoagulants (Warfarin, Heparin, apixaban, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and edoxaban).
symptoms of asthma
Wheeze, Cough, Chest tightness, Dyspnea
what is Salmeterol
used in asthma and COPD. It’s a bronchodilator. Specifically it is a long acting Beta2-adrenergic agonist.
