RESPIRATORY SYSTEM Flashcards
1
Q
Lower respiratory tract is lined by specialised respiratory epithelium Location
A
Trachea, Bronchi, Bronchioles
2
Q
Describe the Trachea
A
The trachea is lined with pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium, which extends down to the main bronchi
3
Q
Describe the Bronchi
A
The main bronchi (primary bronchi) also feature this epithelium. As the bronchi branch into smaller bronchi (secondary and tertiary), the structure of the epithelium begins to change.
4
Q
Describe the Bronchioles
A
In the smaller bronchioles, the epithelium transitions to a simple cuboidal epithelium, particularly in the terminal and respiratory bronchioles.
