respiratory system Flashcards
label the structures of the respiratory system
nasal cavity, mouth, pharynx, trachea, lung, bronchus, bronchioles, alveoli, bloodstream
describe the importance of the respiratory system
it’s responsible for providing oxygen to the body and removing carbon dioxide
explain the process of inhalation and exhalation (include structures, muscles, and their movements)
inhalation: the muscles contract and the diaphragm flattens
exhalation: muscles relax and diaphragm becomes a dome shape
write the word equation for cellular respiration
glucose + oxygen -> water + carbon dioxide + energy
write the word equation for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide + water + light energy -> glucose + oxygen gas
explain how the respiratory system is connected to the circulatory system
the respiratory system is connected to the circulatory system by bringing blood to and from the lungs
what is the biggest risk of organ transplantation ? how can this risk be minimized?
the biggest risk is that the riciplacints body may recognize the organ as something foreign so it will try to destroy it. the way to minimize this is by using tissue that is genetically similar to the recipient
