Respiratory Pharmacology Flashcards
What are the two main autonomic neurotransmitters?
Noradrenaline, acetylcholine
What overall effect does autonomic innervation have on the airway smooth muscle?
Parasympathic - constricts, sympathetic - dilates
Describe, briefly, the mechanism of parasympathetic effect upon the ASM.
PIP2 converted to IP3 by PLC, due to GPCR activation. Calcium buildup activates calmodulin which stimulates myosin light chain kinase
Describe, briefly, the mechanism of sympathetic effect upon the ASM.
Adenylyl cyclase converts ATP to cAMP. By PKA, this activates myosin phosphatase.
Name the two myosin enzymes. Which contracts and which dilates the ASM?
Myosin light chain kinase (+ATP) contracts, myosin phosphatase dilates
Which two spasmogens are primarily used in provacation tests?
Histamine H1, Methacholine M3
Name the main SABA.
Salbutamol
Name the main LABAs.
Salmeterol, formoterol
Name the main CysLT1s.
Montelukast, Zafirlukast (-lukast)
Name the main methylxanthine drugs.
Theophyline, aminophyline (-phyline)
Name the main glucocorticosteroids.
Cortisol, prednisone
Name the main mineralocorticosteroids.
Aldesterone, beclometasone, budesonide, fluticasone
Name the main cromone.
