type 1 and type 2 difference in PO2 and PCO2? and causes?
A
type 1: hypoxemia (PO2 <60 mmHh) and normal or low PCO2. pneumonia, pneumothorax, PE, ARDS
type 2: hypoxemia with hypercapnia (PCO2 >50 mm Hg). Causes: COPD, asthma, GBS and MG, sleep apnea

signs and symptoms including hypercapnia?
A
tachypnea, tachycardia, nasal flaring, using accessory muscles to breathe, intercostal suprasternal or subcostal retractions, cyanosis, paradoxical breathing
hypercapnia: hypopnea, asterixis, warm peripheries, papilledema
