respiratory assessment Flashcards
normal O2 sat range
95-100
normal breath sounds are
3
bronchial (over the trachea)
bronchal vesicular
bads sounds
fine crackles (formally known as rales)
coarse crackles
friction rub
sonorous wheeze (rhonchi)
sibilant wheeze (high pitched musical sound)
stridor (really high pitched)
atelectasis (alveoli collapsing - immobility related)
chain stokes occure durring what??
often during impending death
orthopnea
inability to breath except in an upright or standing position
hypoxemia
reduced levels of O2 in the blood can measure with o2 sat
hypoxia
inadequite tissue oxygen at a cellular level
cynanosis
hypoxia and hypoxemia left untreated cyanosis develops
what can we do to help in oxygenation promotion
if mobile get them moving
fluids (promotes circulation and prevents thick secretion)
coughing
deep breathing
safety for oxygen therapy
tank has enough oxygen to last duration of the patients move
beware of sparks or flames
oxygen delivery devices
nasal cannula (nasal prongs) - good to help talk and eat
simple oxygen mask
venturi-mask system (for specific O2 percentage and flow rate)
partial and nonrebreather masks (just b4 intubation or ICU)
ambu bag
CPAP and BiPAP
used for sleep apnea (dart vader sleep machine)
cpap is continuous pressure
BiPAP is bi levels
why use a chest tube
drain fluid
hemothorax
fluid or blood in the lungs
nurses job in preop phase
get consent (informed) get the doctor doing the surgery to explain procedure teach before the surgery
