Respiratory And Circulatory System Flashcards
Respiratory system
Made up of the organs in the body that help us to breathe.
Nose
The entrance of oxygen and exit of carbon dioxide.
Nasal passages
It filter and warm the air, and make it moist before it goes into the lungs
Trachea
Another name for this is windpipe. A hollow tube inside the neck.
Bronchi
Direct the air you breathe to your right and left lungs.
Bronchioles
Hair-like tubes in the lungs.
Alveoli
A.K.A air sacs. It is where the exchange of gas happens.
Diaphragm
Major muscle of respiration. It is placed below the lungs.
What happens to your diaphragm when you inhale?
The diaphragm contracts.
What happens to your diaphragm if you exhale?
It relaxes.
Circulatory system
The life support structure that nourishes your cells with nutrients from the food you eat and oxygen from air.
Heart
Pumps the blood throughout the body
Blood vessel
Carries the blood throughout the body
What are the parts of blood vessel?
Arteries, veins, and capillaries
Arteries
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the cells, tissues, and organs
Veins
Carry deoxygenated blood to the heart
Capillaries
The smallest blood vessel in the body.
The actual site where gases and nutrients are exchanged
Blood
Carries the materials throughout the body
What are the types of blood?
RBC
WBC
Platelets
Plasma
RBC
Red blood cells
It contains hemoglobin - gives the color to the blood. It delivers oxygen from your lungs to your tissues and organs.
WBC
White blood cells
Helps fight infection and part of your immune system.
Platelets
Helps blood clot when you have cut or wound.
Plasma
The liquid part of your blood. Made of water, salts and protein.
What are the circulation of blood to your body?
Pulmonary circulation
Coronary circulation
Systemic circulation
What is pulmonary circulation?
Movement of blood from the heart — lungs — heart
Coronary circulation
Movement of blood through the tissues of the heart
Systemic circulation
Movement of the blood from the heart to the rest of the body, excluding lungs.
What are the four chambers of the heart?
Right atrium. Right ventricle
Left atrium. Left ventricle
Circulation of the heart
Superior vena cava
Right atrium
Tricuspid valve
Right ventricle
Pulmonary valve
Pulmonary Artery
Pulmonary vein
Left atrium
Mitral valve
Aortic valve
Left ventricle
Aorta
