Respiratory And Cardiovascular Systems Flashcards
What are the 3 main compartments of the thoracic cavity?
Left and right pleural cavity, mediastinum. The mediastinum contains the heart etc.
Define respiratory system.
Group of organs which enable the exchange of gases between the blood and atmospheric air.
Where are nasal cavities located?
Spaces between nares/nostrils and pharynx. 2 nasal cavities separated by nasal septum. Lateral wall of each contains 3 nasal conchae which humidify the air.
What is the pharynx divided into?
Nasal cavity, oral cavity and larynx.
What are the blood vessels to the heart?
Vena cava - 2 veins return deox to right atrium.
Pulmonary trunk - artery takes deox from right v to lungs.
Pulmonary veins - 4 veins drain ox blood into left atrium.
Aorta - artery takes ox blood from left v to body.
What is the pericardial cavity?
Space between serous layers and contains pericardial fluid. Lubricates layers.
What are the 2 main parts of the pericardium?
Fibrous (outer) - parietal lateral lines the fibrous pericardium.
Serous (inner) - 2 layers are continuous.
A visceral layer lines the heart itself.
