Respiratory Flashcards
Respiration
The process in which Glucose and oxygen undergo a change into water and carbon dioxide
What is the order of air travel?
Nose,Pharynx,Larynx,Trachea,Bronchi,Lungs
What does the nose do?
Moistens the air with mucus and filters it using cilia
What does the trachea do?
It continues to clean and moisten the air that started in the throat. If irritated you cough which also like a sneeze gifts rid of harmful substances
What do the bronchi do?
Directs air through the passage ways into the lungs
What do the alveoli do?
Made at the end of bronchi to act as a gas exchange way for blood and air
What is gas exchange?
Oxygen enters through the walls of the alveoli and the capillaries into the blood stream while carbon dioxide enter the alveoli to be breathed out by the lungs
What is hemoglobin?
Carries oxygen in the blood to all parts of the body
How many times do you breathe a day?
20,000
What does the diaphragm do?
A large dome shaped muscle that plays an important part in breathing by controlling the air pressure
What happens when you breathe?
The ribs contract and lift the chest wall up and out. At the same time the diaphragm moves down and opens the chest cavity creating more space for air as the air pressures by goes down. When you exhale the ribs and diaphragm relax squeezing the air out.
How do you speak?
When you speak the coal cords contract and when the air rushes out the cords vibrate and create a sound or your voice
How do you produce Carbon monoxide?
Burning substances such as tobacco
What is Nicotine?
A drug that speeds up the activity of several body parts unesscisarily
