What are the normal breath sounds?
Vesicular, bronchovesicular, bronchial, tracheal
What does stridor indicate?
Narrowing in the upper airway
Can be caused by croup, epiglottis, upper airway FB, and anaphylaxis
What does wheezing indicate?
Caused by rapid airflow through a narrowed bronchial airway
Caused by RAD, asthma, COPD
What are crackles and what do they indicate?
Inspiratory sound
Caused by small airway closed during expiration
E.g. pneumonia, CHF, atelectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, COPD, asthma
What adventitiuous breath sound sounds like velcro?
Crackles/rales
What adventitious breath sound sounds like snoring?
Rhonchi
What is bronchophony?
Spoken words become louder and clearer, indicating consolidation
What is egophony?
The ee sounds like a. It tends to be localized and with fever and cough, it indicates pneumonia
What is whispered pectrolioquy?
Whispers are heard louder and clearer during auscultation
