Amoxicillin tds for 5 days
Pen-allergic –> doxycycline, clarithromycin or erythromycin (in pregnancy)
1st line management moderate-severity CAP (CRB-65 1-2)
Amxoicillin + clarithromycin/erythromycin (if atypical pathogens suspected)
OR: doxycycline, or clarithromycin
CRB-65 score for CAP
Confusion - abbreviated mental test score </= 8/10
RR >/= 30
BP </= 90 sys; </= 60 dia
Aged >/= 65
Management of CRB-65 score = 0
Treatment at home considered
Management of CRB-65 score 1-2
Hospital assessment considered
Management of CRB-65 score 3+
Urgent hospital admission
Follow-up imaging in CAP
CXR after 6 weeks - if symptoms + signs persist, or if high risk of underlying malignancy
