Respiration in Organism Flashcards
Types of respiration,Lungs etc.
.what is Cellular respiration
The process of breakdown of food in the cell with the release of energy is called cellular respiration.
.what is Aerobic respiration?
In the cell the food is broken down into carbon dioxide and water using oxygen This is called cellular oxygen.
what is Anaerobic respiration?
It is the breakdown of glucose without using oxygen.
what is an example of anaerobs?
Yeast can survive in the absence of air there for they are called anaerobs.
In the absence of oxygen, what does glucose break down into?
Alcohol+carbon dioxide + Energy.
where does anaerobic respiration take place in humans?
In the muscle cells.
In our muscles, what does the partial breakdown of glucose produce?
Glucose in the absence of oxygen and in our muscles make lactic acid+energy.
when does aerobic respiration take place in our body?
During heavy exercise, fast running, cycling, walking for many hours or heavy weight lifting the demand for energy is high and the supply for oxygen is reduced so,Anaerobic respiration takes place in our body in the muscles.
why do we get muscle cramps after heavy exercise?
The cramps occur when muscle cells respire anaerobically. When the partial breakdown of glucose produces lactic acid,The accumulation of lactic acid costs muscle cramps.
how many times does an adult human breath in a minute?
15-18 times.
through which parts does air pass through when we Inhale?
It passes through our nostrils into the nasal cavity.
where does the air go from the nasal cavity?
from the nasal cavity, the air reached our lungs through wind pipe.
where are our lungs present?
in the chest cavity,
on which muscular sheet are the lungs located?
Diaphragm.
where is the Diaphragm seated
In the floor of the chest cavity.
