Respiration, Fermentation, and Photosynthesis Test Flashcards
Plants can go through both photosynthesis and respiration. Do they need humans to survive?
No
What is the xylem used for?
To carry H2O through tubes
What is the phloem used for?
It carries glucose throughout the plant
Osmosis
Water particles moving from areas of high concentration to low concentration
Diffusion and osmosis are types of passive transport. Do they require cells to use energy?
No
What types of molecules move through passive transport?
Small Molecules
If the molecules that move are oxygen, would it be osmosis or diffusion?
Diffusion
What are the benefits of the cell membrane being selectively permeable?
Lets what the cell needs in and lets what the cell needs out.
What is equilibrium?
Molecules that are evenly distributed, concentrations are balanced.
Why would it be a bad idea to drink salt water if you were stranded in the ocean?
It will move the water out of your cells because of osmosis, and it would make water in a high concentration into a low concentration and it would make you dehydrated very quickly.
Diffusion
Particles moving from areas of high concentration to low concentration.
What does Fermentation require?
No O2, makes less energy, produces lactic acid or alcohol.
What do both Fermentation and Respiration Require?
Produce energy, use glucose, produce CO2.
What does Respiration require?
Requires O2, makes more energy, produces H2O.
What is the Reactant and Product of Energy?
Reactant: Photosynthesis
Product: Respiration
