Respiration + Breathing Flashcards
Respiration
Release of energy from food
Two types of respiration
Aerobic
Anaerobic
Aerobic
Needs oxygen for the release of energy
Anaerobic
Does not need oxygen for the release of energy from food
What carries oxygen in your blood
Haemoglobin
Example of anaerobic respiration
Fermentation
Why do you get muscle cramps
When you run out of oxygen but keep working your muscles you get cramps to try make you rest
What is the equation for respiration
Glucose + oxygen➡️ carbon dioxide + water + energy
Nose and mouth
The opening for air to go through.
Pharynx
Scientific name for your throat
Trachea
The tube that leads to your lungs. Held open by rings of cartilage
Bronchus
The two branch like tubes that split the trachea into the two lungs
Bronchioles
To spread out through all our lungs the
bronchi break up to even smaller little
branches called BRONCHIOLES.
Alveoli
• The final place the air we breathe in goes to
in our lung is the ALVEOLI.
• The final place the air we breathe in goes to
in our lung is the ALVEOLI.
• It is in the Alveoli that Carbon Dioxide is
brought into the lungs to be exhaled and
oxygen is brought into the body for
respiration.
• This is called Gas exchange.
