Respiration And Gas Exchange Flashcards
Y do we need energy?
Warmth, movement and to keep our cells in order
Aerobic Respiration =
Glucose +oxygen —> energy +water +carbon dioxide
Anaerobic respiration=
Glucose —> lactic acid + a little energy
Oxygen dept?
How much oxygen you have to inhale to get rid of the lactic acid and turn it into carbon dioxide and water
Where does aerobic respiration take place?
The mighty mitochondria
Where does anaerobic respiration occur?
In the cytoplasm
Aerobic respiration for yeast?
Glucose +oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water + energy
Anaerobic respiration for yeast?
Glucose —> ethanol + carbon dioxide + energy
Alveoli
Air sacs on the bronchioles, diffuse oxygen into RBC, take on the carbon dioxide
Increase surface area,
Next to capillary
1 cell wall thick
Trachea
Airway from voice box, to bronchi
Allows oxygen to pass into lungs, releases carbon dioxide
Diaphragm
Big muscle that powers mechanical breathing
It contracts and flattens making the volume of chest larger so air comes in upon inhalation 🤹♂️
Bronchioles
Stemming from the bronchi, air tubes that lead to alveoli
Intercostal muscles
Move ribs in to exhale, making chest cavity smaller so air is pushed out
Ribs 🍴
Form structure for lungs, cage the lungs and expand and detract in order to force ventilation
Haemogoblin
The protein of an RBC responsible for carrying oxygen to the cells and muscles
