what are the steps of respiration and where do they occur and products
1- glycolysis, makes 2atp 2 nadh 2 pyrvate in cytoplasm
2-link , makes 2 nadh, 2acetylcoa , 2co2 in matrix
3- krebs, makes 2 atp, 6nadh, 2fadh, 4co2
4-oxidative phosphorylation , makes 34atp in cristae
glycolysis
glucose phosporylated into 2 3ctp. uses pi from atp, and this provides ea.
h removed from tp and is given to nad to make nadh
enzymes convert 3c tp into 3c pyruvate
2atp are regenerated
link reaction
pyruvate actively transported into matrix.link happens twice. 3c pyruvate gets h removed , given to nad, gets decarboxylated to make 2c acetate . this combines with coa to make acetyl coa.
krebs cycle
4c oxaloacetate combines with 2c acetyl coa to make 6c citrate. this gets h removed and decarbocylated to form 5c. this gets h removed and decarboxylated to 4c. this makes atp and goes to another 4c. this gets h removed and given to fad to make 4c. this gets h removed and reforms oxaloacetate
what is the electron transport chain
uses nadh and fadh from glyclysis and krebs. they donate electrons from hydrogen atoms to 1st molecule in etc. oxidation reduction reactions along chain. as they pass through they release energy used to actively transport protons into inner membranal space. protons in inner membrane diffuse down grad back into matrix through atp synthase. electrons combine w final electron acceptor oxygen to make water
anerobic respiration in plants
after glycolysis the pyruvate gets decarboxylated into ethanal and uses the hs from nadh to reduce to ethanol
anerobic respiration in animals
after glycolysis the pyruvate is reduced to lactate using h from nadh.lactate then goes to liver or oxidised to pyruvate
why do plants need atp from respiration
in dark, ldr cant happen so atp cant be made
some parts of plant are non photosynthetic
atp is immediate energy source so cant be stored
plants use more atp than whats made in photsynthesis
