Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Aerobic respiration
A
this requires oxygen and produces carbon dioxide, water and much ATP
2
Q
Anaerobic respiration
A
this takes place in the absence of oxygen and produced lactate (in animals) in ethanol and carbon dioxide (in plants and fungi) but only use a little ATP in both cases
3
Q
Aerobic respiration can be divided into four stages:
A
- glycolysis which is the splitting of the 6 carbon glucose molecule into 3 pyruvate molecules
- link reaction which is the 3 carbon pyruvate molecules enter a series of reactions which lead to the formation of acetylcoenzyme A, a 2 carbon molecule
