respiration Flashcards
What is respiration?
A chemical reaction that takes place inside cells
Aerobic respiration equation
Glucose+oxygen—water+carbon dioxide+(energy)
symbol equation
C6 H2 06+602–6H20+6co2+ energy
What reaction is it
an exothermic (energy is being released)
Which part of the cell does respiration take place?
The mitochondria
Enzymes…
control respiration
Folded membrane-
to increase large surface area
The larger the surface area…
the more efficient it is to take place
The need for respiration
Energy transferred in respiration is used for building activities.
What do the molecules break down?
Breaks down larger molecules to smaller ones in digestion.
What is respiration used for in animals?
Is transferred to make muscles contract (movement)
What does respiration do for the temperature of our body?
Respiration makes our body warmer when were cold, on hot days body transfers energy to our surroundings)
Energy in plants…
Is transferred to make mineral ions contract sugars into other nutrients and amino acids.
What is the difference between breathing and respiring?
Breathing is the intake of oxygen- moving diaphragm, the movement of air.
Respiration is a chemical reaction which happens inside cells.
Exercising
When exercising we need to get more oxygen to the cells and remove more carbon dioxide.
