Respiration Flashcards
What side of the heart contains oxygenated blood?
Left
What is the respiration equation?
glucose+oxygen->carbon dioxide+water
When there is not enough oxygen, muscles respire and create Latic acid (a toxic acid that causes muscles to ache). What type of respiration is this called?
Anaerobic respiration
What are the 2 main details of an artery?
Narrow tube and think walls
What are the 2 main details of a vein?
Thin wall and wide tube
What are the 2 main details of a capillary?
Very thin wall and very narrow tube
After exercise, why does your heart pump faster and why do you pant?
The heart is pumping blood containing oxygen to energise parts of the body. Hence why we pant as, it is an easy way to get oxygen in quickly.
What is in air?
Nitrogen
Oxygen
Carbon dioxide
Other gases
What happens to your diaphragm when you breath in?
Contracts and moves down
What happens in the Alveoli that we would die without?
Gas exchange
What colour do you normally colour oxygenated blood cells?
Red
What 3 properties do the alveoli have to help with the gas exchange?
Smooth moist walls
Thin walls
Large surface area
What are the ‘branch like’ things in your lungs?
Bronchioles
What is the proper word for the wind pipe?
Trachea
What are the things at the end of the bronchioles?
Alveoli
