Method one:

Method two:
- measure the rate at which carbon dioxide is produced → higher rate = higher respiration rate.

A

A

They slow it down and eventually stop it. This is because the reactions occurring during metabolism are controlled by enzymes. High temperatures and high or low PHs denature enzymes.

A

What happens as we recover from exercise?

A

Our breathing and heart rate remain high because:

  • Extra oxygen is supplied to the cells as hard exercise causes a lack of it.
  • Rapid blood flow can carry this oxygen to the cells and lactic acid to liver to be broken down.

A

They are small air sacs found in the lungs. They have large surface are to volume ratios to allow for gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide used in respiration.
