Respiration Flashcards
Who needs energy?Why?
Living and non-living things.To do work.
What does our body need energy for?
To carry out various activities.
Why do plants need energy?
To carry out different procceses like:
* growth
* absorption of water and
* photosynthesis.
Where do we get energy from?
Food.
In what form does food store energy?
chemical energy.
Define respiration.
The procces by wich food (glucose) is broken down by oxgen (oxidised) to release energy, carbon dioxide and water.
How is chemical energy in food being used?
The chemical energy in food is released by oxidation and the released energy is stored in the form of special molecules called adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
What gets liberated from food during oxygen?
- Energy
- Carbon Dioxide and
- Water.
When does the process of respiration take place?
All the time.
How can respiration be represented?
Digested food(glucose) +Oxygen ——–) Energy+Waste products(water and carbondioxide)
What are the charecteristics of respiration?
- Food is broken down into simpler forms.
- Energy is produced.
- Exchange of gases occurs. Oxygen is used up and Carbon dioxide is given out.
where does the charecteristics of respiration take place?
In all living cells of a plant or an animal.
What is the types of respiration based on?
Whether oxygen is used up or not.
Define aerobic respiration.
The process in which oxidation of food takes place in the presence of oxygen is known as aerobic respiration.
Write the formula of aerobic respiration.
Digestested food (glucose) + oxygen ——-) energy(38 ATP)+carbon dioxide+ water
IN aerobic respiration does the digested food (glucose) get completely oxidised?What happens as a result?
Yes,carbon dioxide and water are produced.
How many ATP molecules are released from the oxidation of 1 glucose molecule?
Aerobic
38
Which type of respiration do most organisms use?Why?
Aerobic respiration.Because they require oxygen.
