Q

how does anaerobic occur in plants and animals

A

Plants:
- Glucose is brokend into ethanol ( alcohol) and CO2 is released
- imp in bread making where yeast is kneaded into the dough, yeast enzyme brakes down starch into glucose and CO2 is released
- Alcoholic fermentation
- C6H12O6 ——-> CO2 + ETHANOL + 2ATP

Animals:
- Glucose is broken down into lactic acid ( by lactic acid fermentation)
- Lactic acid = paralysing effect on muscle cells, pain and fatigue; limited time period; till O2 debt passes
- Once O2 is available again lactic acid can undergo aerobic respiration
- C6H12O6 ——-> Lactic acid + 2ATP

Q

Explain metabolism fully

A
  • Chemical activity inside an organism
  • 2 parts : anabolism; catabolism
  • Anabolism = large complex molec formed from small molec
  • Catabolism = large molec are broken down into smaller molec
