Resperation Flashcards
Biochemical
A chemical reaction that takes place in a living thing
Respiration
The release of energy from food
Aerobic Respiration
Living things need energy to allow them to move, grow, stay warm and repair damaged parts
Anaerobic Respiration
Occurs without oxygen and releases less energy but more quickly than aerobic respiration
Enzymes
Enzymes are proteins that act as biological catalysts by accelerating chemical reactions.
Lactic Acid
a colourless syrupy organic acid formed in sour milk, and produced in the muscle tissues during strenuous exercise.
Solar Energy
radiant energy emitted by the sun.
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy
Chemical Energy
Chemical energy is the energy of chemical substances that is released when they undergo a chemical reaction and transform into other substances.
Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is responsible for the green color of many plants and algae.
Stomata
Stomata are cell structures in the epidermis of tree leaves and needles that are involved in the exchange of carbon dioxide and water between plants and the atmosphere.
