Resp3 Flashcards
what is the spirometry pattern in obstructive respiratory diseases?
In obstructive lung disease:
• FEV1: reduced
• FVC: reduced, but to a lesser extent than FEV1
• FEV1/FVC: reduced (0.7)
Assess reversibility with bronchodilator (400 mcg salbutamol and repeat spirometry) if considering asthma as a cause. Patients should be asked to stop bronchodilator therapy prior to spirometry, to ensure previous treatments do not affect the results (SABA 6 hours and LABA 12 hours before the test).
what is the spirometry pattern in restrictive respiratory diseases?
In restrictive lung disease:
• FEV1: reduced
• FVC: reduced
• FEV1/FVC: normal (>0.7)
what are the causes of of restrictive lung disease?
Causes: Pleural Alveolar Interstitial Neuromuscular Thoracic cage
