Q

What is rehabilitation?

A

After mining, the miners may have damaged the environment. Rehabilitation is the process of restoring the environment that has been affected. The miners do this by planting trees, encouraging animals to return, etc..

Q

Is soil a renewable or a non renewable source?

A

Non renewable; although technically we don’t “use” the soil, we have a finite, or limited amount.

16
Q

Is water a renewable or non renewable resource?

A

Non renewable; we use a lot more water than it can produce.

17
Q

How does coal generate electricity?

A

Heat energy from the coal is used to boil water in a certain container. The steam from the water is used to turn the generator, which creates the electricity. Australia uses a lot of coal to power houses.

18
Q

Is coal a renewable or non renewable resource?

A

Non renewable; Coal is a fossil fuel, and fossil fuels take really long to form. We use a lot more coal than it can produce.

19
Q

Fossil fuels include…

A

Coal, crude oil and gas.

20
Q

How are fossil fuels created?

A

When plants die, they somehow get into a body of water, like a river or lake. Eventually they sink to the bottom and go underground. Then, heat and/or pressure is used to form the fossil fuel. The fossil fuel made depends on how much of both heat and pressure there is.

21
Q

How dangerous is nuclear energy?

A

Highly dangerous; it shouldn’t be handled by people who don’t know how to handle it. The radiation from the nuclear atoms cause people dying, and must be isolated unless you know how to handle it.

22
Q

What are power lines?

A

There are two types of power lines: Transmission lines and Distribution lines. When power is generated it gets sent to a substation on TRANSMISSION LINES. After, the substations distribute the electricity generated to the different homes and business. They use the DISTRIBUTION LINES to send the electricity to the homes and business.

23
Q

The last question for the test:

A

The Australian government has asked you to recommend a renewable resource to them. You must use facts and figures to support your facts. What resource would you recommend to the Australian government and why?
