Resorces And Sustainability Flashcards
What do we need to consider about when thinking about sustainable food products
-eat locally
-reduces food waste, don’t buy more than you need
-transport should be more eco friendly, don’t waste fuel
-eat foods in season
-does the supply fit the demand?
Why should we eat local
It reduces your carbon footprint, the food usually tastes better, it is cheaper, the transport is more expensive, makes less pollution
Why should we buy fair trade
It gives farmers a fair portion of money, it makes the work more safe, it provides technical training and it prevents child labour
Why should we eat seasonal
Decreases global warming, you will not have to pay more for less (eg transporting), a loss of food insecurity, you will know more food knowledge and skills
How can you conserve water
Turn of water taps when you are done
Take a water jug to water plants-not a hose
Take showers or baths
Fix a leaking tap to save water
Put a full washing load on
Keep water in The fridge if you want a cold drink
Do all the dishes in one go
Use a water butt to reuse rain water
What are dams and reservoirs
They collect rainflow and control water flow. It prevent flooding, but it is really expensive
Water transfers
They try to make water supply evenly spread. Although, it takes a very long time to build (Around 50 years).
Desalination
It removes salt form seawater to produce more freshwater. This means that there is a more water to drink. A downside is that a lot of energy is wasted, adding to carbon emissions.
