Resistors Flashcards
What happens in some components as the current changes
The resistance of the component changes as well
What do ohmic conductors not do
They don’t change with the current
What is directly proportional to the current in an ohmic conductor at a constant temperature
To the potential difference
What happens when an electrical charge flows through a filament lamp
It transfers some energy to the thermal energy store of the filament, which is designed to heat up, resistance increases with temperature so
as the current increases the temp increases
What happens when an electrical charge flows through a diode
The resistance depends on the direction of the current, but have a high resistance in the reverse direction
What is meant by the term I-V characteristics
Refers to a graph which shows how the current flowing through a component changes as the the potential difference across it is increased
What do linear components have
A straight line
What do non linear components have
Curved line
