Resistors Flashcards
If wired in a series what is the formula for calculating resistance?
R= R1+ R2
If wired as a parallel, what is the formula for calculating resistance?
1/R=1/R1+1/R2
If resistors are wired in a parallel. And consist of R1= 4 Ω , R2= 5 Ω, R3=20 Ω
What is the full resistance?
2 Ω
Workings:
1/4 + 1/5 + 1/20 =
5/20 + 4/20 + 1/20 = 10/20
= 1/2
= 2 ohms
If wired in a series 2 resistors of 250 Ω and 100 Ω what is the total
Resistance?
350 Ω
What do you do with circuits that contain series and parallel?
Break down the circuit to be as simple as possible. Start with the series. Then move to parallel
Why would we want to know the full resistance of a circuit?
Because with that combined with the voltage we can use ohms law to calculate the current.
