Resistance Seam Welding Flashcards
1
Q
Describe with the aid of a diagram the features of Resistance Seam Welding
A
Seam welding is a form of resistance welding that uses copper roller electrodes to provide a continuous run of overlapping welds as the current is activated at set intervals.
One of the electrodes may be driven by an electric motor.
The workpiece is moved between the rollers and pulses of current are supplied.
Each pulse is set to last long enough to produce a weld.
Used when a continuous tight weld is required eg fuel tanks, drums, domestic radiators.
2
Q
What are the benefits of seam welding a radiator?
A
Creates a sealed unit(liquid and gas-proof) High-speed welding process Easily automated Suitable for high rate production Economical.
