Resistance, Potential Diff, REQ.PRAC Flashcards
Higher the resistance
The more difficult it is for charge to flow
-The lower the current
Measured in ohms
What does potential difference (or voltage) tell us
Difference in electrical potential from one point in a circuit to another
The bigger the potential difference across a component
- The greater the flow of charge through the component
- The bigger the current
MEASURED IN VOLTS
V=IR
REQ.PRAC of factors that affect resistance of circuit
1) set up standard test circuit
2) pre test circuit and adjust supple voltage to make sure there is a difference in readings when taken
3) record voltage and current at range of lengths using crocodile clips
4) use variable resistor to keep current through the wire the same at each length
5) use V and I to calculate R
Hazards and risks of REQ.PRAC
- current flowing through wire can cause it to get hot
- adjust variable resistor to keep it low
