Resistance Flashcards
What is resistance measured in? What is its symbol?
Resistance is measured in ohms and its symbol is the Greek omega.
What is resistance and what does it do?
The property of a component which restricts the flow of electrical current. Energy is used up as the voltage drives the current through the component an this energy heats it up.
What are resistance values often given in?
K for kilo (1000 ohms) and M for mega (1000000 ohms)
What is the range of resistance values in electronics?
0.1 ohms to as high as 10 M ohms
What can you look at to figure out the resistor’s value?
The coloured bands on the component which represent a different digit.
What is the first band for?
The first digit.
What is the second band for?
The second digit.
What is the third band for?
The number of zeros.
What is the fourth band for?
The tolerance or precision of the resistor-this tells us how accurate the value is.
