Resistance Flashcards
1
Q
What is the formula for resistance and how can it be determined?
A
•R= V/I
• It can be determined by measuring the current I in the component and measuring the p.d V across the component.
2
Q
Define the ohm.
A
•The resistance of a component when a p.d. of 1V is produced per ampere of current.
3
Q
What does 1 ohm equal to?
A
•1 ohm= 1V/A
1 volt per ampere of current
4
Q
What is Ohm’s law?
A
For a metallic conductor kept at constant temperature, the current in the wire is directly proportional to the p.d across its ends.
5
Q
What would an I-V graph look like for a metallic conductor obeying Ohm’s law?
A
A straight upwards line, showing direct proportion.
