Resistance Flashcards
What is Resistance?
The opposition to the flow of electric current.
Where does resistance occur?
In all conductors and components of electric circuit
How does length of a conductor affect resistance?
The longer the conductor -> the higher the R, as electrons need to travel more
How does temperature affect resistance?
The higher the temp, the higher the resistance
Because atoms vibrate more, harder to flow through
How does the cross sectional area of the conductor affect resistance?
The smaller the area, the more resistance
Because less space to travel through
Ohm’s Law
V=IR
V: voltage
I: current
R: resistance
UNITS Ω
What do resistors do?
Slows flow of electrons, creating resistance
Non-Ohmic Resistors
Don’t follow Ohm’s Law [on the graph it curves]
