Reservoir Geology Flashcards
How are Carbonate reservoirs formed and how do the effect drilling of a reservoir?
No trend in buried at depth and porosity
The complexity is due to the range of carbonate ecosystems (isolated 1 set compared to whole ramps) - due to being created by life, passing water through them may dissolve then make it into cement, carbonates create a framework porous that can be moulded by water
PRIMARY DIFFERENT TO SECONDARY EFFECTS = DIFFICULT TO MODEL
What is SST Connectivity and reservoir connectivity?
SST Connectivity - refers to the degree to which different discontinuous SST units are separate or connected to one another
SST bands are usually not continuous meaning net to gross varies from locality
Reservoir connectivity - defined as the proportion of reservoir connected to one or more wells
Injected wells may be present to force oil/gas out of another
Potential to be sealed by faults
Careful positioning of the well may mean better reservoir potential of the well due to connectivity of the SST
