Research Project Flashcards
Two possible solutions
The ships take a different route, where the reef isn’t destroyed
A different mode of transport is used
Action taken by the government
The federal and Queensland state government invest approximately $200 million annually to ensure the reefs health. They also have many plans such as trust funds to ensure their commitment to the reefs longevity
Discuss the issue
The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland is being dredged so that large ships can enter and leave the Australian coast. When the Great Barrier Reef is dredged it destroys the reef and kills many of the sea life. The Great Barrier Reef supports a $6 billion tourist industry and about 70,000 jobs therefore without the reef Australia would lose a lot of tourism and many people would be unemployed
