How do we chose our sources?

How do we develop our focus?
You chose which area (health, social or child care). From there chose the category under it.
Justify your focus
Focus Is clear and concise. Related to pre release. May be a different slant. Own personal interest. Current issue. Related to another source.
How did we develop our research question?
Original/interesting. Manageable. Clear. Answerable. Relevant.
How do we make accurate notes?
Don’t just copy, using a range of sources, develop our own style, good quality notes, reference and use quotation marks.
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Generlisability - how the results and sampling method reflects the target population.
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Reliability - this is how easily the method can be replicated. Means certain variables are controlled.
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Objectivity - this is when the research is not affected by personal feelings. Unbiased. Quantitative data is objective so better to use.
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Validity - seeing if the data is measuring what it needs to. Is it relatable to the population as a whole. Pilot studies increase validity to ensure issues are identified.
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Ethics - is the research ethical? Ethical principles o provide benefit (i.e. health research) o cause no harm o obtain informed consent o protect anonymity or confidentiality o avoid deception o allow the right to withdraw o ensure transparency and integrity
Evaluating our secondary sources?
Ethics -
In practice
o keeping participants informed (i.e. information sheets, sessions)
o obtaining informed consent from participants
o maintaining anonymity (i.e. pseudonyms, no identifying information)
o confidentiality when anonymity is not possible
o responsible use of research findings
