Research Methods DP #2 Flashcards
What is a sample?
A smaller group used to represent the population
What is the population?
Every individual with that specific characteristic of interest to researchers
What is convenience sampling?
An inconvenient way of choosing participants. It is when participants are chosen on the basis of easy access.
What is random sampling?
Random sampling is when every member of the population has an equal chance of being selected as a participant
What is stratified sampling?
Stratified sampling is when the population is divided into distinct groups (strata) and a separate sample is taken in the same proportion
What is random stratified sampling?
Random stratified sampling is when the population is divided into strata and random samples of proportionate size are drawn from within each of the strata.
What is the Experimental Group?
The group that is exposed to the IV
What is the Control Group?
The group not exposed to the IV in order to provide a comparison to the E group.
What is random allocation?
When the participants have an equal chance of being put in the E and C groups.
