Research Methods Flashcards
What is dependent variable?
It’s what you measure in your experiment.
What it independent variable?
Is what you are going to change in the experiment.
What is independent groups?
It’s when a group is split into two and one group do one condition and then the other group does the other condition.
What is repeated groups
It’s where a group do one condition and then do the other condition.
What is matched pairs?
It’s when people who are taking part in the experiment are tested on similarity and matched up into pairs, one pair does condition one and the other pair does condition two.
What are the advantages of independent groups?
There are no order effects.
Often the same materials can be used for the same task in both conditions.
Participants cannot work out the study because they only take part in one condition.
What is the disadvantages of independent groups?
There are different people (participant variables)in the two conditions so that may be why the results are different.
You nee more participants.
What is the advantages of repeated measures?
The people in both confit
Subjective measurements
Based on people’s opinions
Objective measurements
Definite measurements
Questionnaire
Is a series of questions that are linked to a persiphic topic to get an idea of the thoughts and feelings of a person.
Closed question
A question where the person answering has to answer with one of the answers that are given.
Open question
A question where the person answering can give any response they like.
Unambiguous
Something that has only one meaning
Interview
A method in which a researcher collects data by asking questions directly
