What are the positives of self report questionnaires?
+Self report means you get good insight into how people are thinking (unliked observation)

What is a clinical interview?
Verbal questioning of patients to gather information from them. Usually semi structured.
What is a semi structured interview?
A series of questions asked verbally that follow a specific theme
What are the advantages (2) of clinical interviews?
R+ Standardised procedure (same questions can be asked each time)
V+ Detail (patients can fully explain their symptoms= higher chance of correct diagnosis)
What are the disadvantages (2) of clinical interviews?
R- Difficult to replicate exactly (won’t be the same for every patient)
V- Social desirability bias (patients may not tell the truth and give answers that are more socially desired)

Describe vallentines et al?
Conducted semi-structured interviews on 42 male patients at Broad-moor hospital. Participants valued knowing and understanding their illness and the interview increased their confidence.
